As a Malaysian living in the US as well, this article really resonates with me. Not necessarily because I fully agree though I don't disagree with any of it. But because I think racism in Malaysia is far more nuanced. There is definitely apathy, as you said but there is also affection. Every Chinese person has a Malay friend, and an Indian friend while not every white person has a black and Hispanic friend. Though we hold inherent biases, we celebrate each others traditions and adopt each others foods. We welcome all races into our homes. I don't think the same can be said in America. Anyway, great article. It's fascinating to hear from someone who shares these parallels with my life.
