Every person has felt the isolation of the pandemic, but none more than my single friends.

My friend Mark lamented the other day, “Who knew that of all the things that I’ve had to deal with during the pandemic— losing my job, canceled trips, missing out on concerts — that the hardest thing would be crushing loneliness? Who would’ve thought that endless Zoom calls would just make you feel more lonely?”

Mark is as introverted as they come and had initially thought that the pandemic was the best thing that ever happened to him. But after nine months of isolation, even he was on a swipe-a-thon to try and find a quarantine buddy before winter hits.

“The date was okay. Just okay. We didn’t really have anything in common and the conversation was bland but you know what? I’m fine with just okay right now. All I want is someone who is Covid careful,” Mark tells me after the 4th date he went on that week. He pretty much said that about the other three dates too until they ghosted him.

“I’m so skin hungry. I just need some kind of human touch,” my friend Sandra tells me after another one of her attempted Covid-casual relationships fell through.
